Scientists of the Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory co-operate routinely with 200 institutes around the world. Some of our collaborations are only for the duration of a specific project, while some other connections have persisted for decades. Our main collaborators within Finland are the Ionospheric research group and Space Climate research group, both based at Faculty of Science, University of Oulu, the Faculty of Oulu Mining School at University of Oulu, as well as at the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) in Helsinki and at FMI's Arctic Research Center at Sodankylä. The last one, together with our observatory, forms the Tähtelä Science Supersite at Sodankylä.
While SGO receives about two thirds of its funding from the Finnish Ministry of Culture and Education, one third is funded by external project grants. The most important external funding agencies for SGO are the Academy of Finland and the European Union. In addition to the Horizon 2020 program, an important resource is the regional financing through the Council of Oulu Region and the Regional Council of Lapland.
